Few Basic Components of Gas Welding Equipment

The use of gas welding started as early as the middle 1800's where a mixture of Oxygen and Hydrogen were used to produce a hot flame that was used in the making of jewelry. It was only in the late 1890's when the gas Acetylene started to be used in the gas welding and all the gas welding equipment or the gas equipment that we have today was developed on the basis of this breakthrough. Oxy-Acetylene gas equipment is portable, less expensive and more versatile than a electric welding set up. By using the proper tips, rods and fluxes, almost any metal can be welded, heated or cut using the Oxy-Acetylene process.

Oxy-acetylene welding equipment in Sydney is made up of few basic components. These are as follows:

· Cylinders – Oxygen and Acetylene

Oxygen and Acetylene are stored under pressure in steel cylinders. They are sized by the cuft. of either Oxygen or Acetylene that they hold.

· Welding Hoses for Gas Equipment

Welding hoses are double line rubber structures that are used to connect the cylinder regulators and torch. Double line hose is known as type VD. The Oxygen line is green in color and the fuel line is red.

· Regulators

Regulators are important components of any gas welding equipment or gas equipment as they regulate the pressure of Oxygen and Acetylene flowing from the cylinders. There are basically two types of regulators, single-stage and two-stage.

· Check Valves

They prevent the back flow of the combustion fuel to the cylinders.

· Flash Back Arrestors

This is another safety device, which is a part of any standard welding equipment in Sydney.

· Torches

The place where the combustion happens and the flame is ignited.

· Welding and Cutting Tips – Acetylene Tips

Mounted at the end of the torch and the hole size determines what type and kind of metal it can weld.

· Cutting Attachment and Cutting Torch

Used for heavy duty metal cutting after welding.

· Welding Goggles and Gloves

The default and recommended safety equipment which are part of any gas equipment.
